First it's New Year's eve, then one holiday or birthday after another. The summer always seems to go by in a flash and the seasons seem to come and go very quickly.
I don’t know if I’m the only one, but as I get a bit older it seems like the years go by in a flash and I’m wondering where the time went. What’s the deal? I’m really starting to realize that you have to eliminate time wasters or it seems like the years will keep passing and every year will start to feel like “Ground Hog Day”.
One thing that every single person reading this article has in common is we can never get our time back. No amount of money will ever get you your time back. What separates those who have achieved their goals in life from those who don't is how they spend those 24 hours in each day.
Well, 2009 is going to be different!
It's time to draw a line in the sand!
Here is my top 10 list of ways to make 2009 rock!
1. Stop watching T.V. (especially the news)
2. Eliminate the phrase “I’ll do it tomorrow”
3. No more excuses to yourself as to why something didn’t get done
4. Live in the moment. Not tomorrow or yesterday.
5. Stay focused on your primary goals until they are done
6. Spend more time with family and loved ones
7. Eat healthier and work out more
8. Be grateful for all the good in your life
9. Focus on opportunities, not challenges
10. Think big and see it for yourself as though it’s already done
That doesn’t sound too hard, does it?? It boils down to discipline and staying focused on what’s important. One of my business coaches said something very powerful recently, that I think is very true. He said, “Challenges are what people see when they lose focus.”
On a daily basis we are either practicing simple disciplines or simple errors in judgment that are either moving us closer to our goals or further from them. Focus on today and make it count. John Maxwell wrote a great book called "Today Matters" that is very powerful and talks about this concept.
I think in today’s times with the melt-down of the global economy and the fear that seems to be spreading amongst us, it is important to focus on things we have an ability to impact. It is very easy to get caught up in all that is "bad" and be swept up in this negativity. Sometimes you have to observe the masses, and do the opposite.
As individuals, we can’t impact an overall economy or end unwanted wars, but we can focus on taking care of our families and what's important to us and those we care about. If we can all do that, I think we'll have a much better year ahead!
